Artist Statement

“Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment” Claude Monet’s statement reflects my lifelong love of color.

As a colorist, I develop paintings that have rich, vibrant, almost luminous color. Using a palette knife with oils allows me to express a sense of wonder and beauty in my paintings through the application of thick, fluid paint. I find that this medium allows me to obtain sumptuous, glimmering color.

I paint landscapes and floral scenes in an abstract expressionistic style. Both my floral and my landscape paintings have a clearly developed central area, contrasted with pieces of color chosen to suggest common, natural elements.

I am inspired by the spectacular Colorado landscape and by scenery from my travels.  I am particularly enthralled by seas and other bodies of water.
